Late Night with the Devil

David Dastmalchian delivers a stand-out performance as a struggling late night host trying to keep his show alive. The film is a a modern take on campy horror and exquisitely represents 1970’s late night shows, focusing on an infamous Halloween taping. Too bad the ending ruined all hope this had for being truly monumental.

Immaculate

Detroit-native, Cecilia, travels to Italy to serve as a nun in a hospital-ish convent assisting elderly nuns who are… on their way out. But she quickly learns that’s not the most macabre thing happening at this very secluded convent.

As disturbing as every single scene was, I think the most unsettling was hearing some Sister Act hits slowed down and sung by creepy nuns.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

The Ghostbusters are still in a rundown building in NYC, with a poor public image, busting ghosts with maximum property damage. And then they inevitably unleash a super deadly paranormal entity that will threaten to destroy the entire planet. Accidentally, of course.

I really enjoyed Afterlife, but this wasn’t quite as good. Too many subplots and took waaaaaay to long to gain any momentum.

Arachnophobia

Dr. Jennings arrives in a small town to take over for the retiring physician only for things to go immediately wrong. The current doc changes his mind about retirement, the family farmhouse is in disarray, the townspeople start dropping like flies, and of course Jennings is blamed. But the deaths are really the doing of the town’s other new residents: deadly South African mutated spiders.

You’ll laugh a lot but it’s mostly because of how absurd this whole movie is.

The September House

Vacate a severely haunted house that cranks up to an 11 every September? In this economy?? Margaret and her husband found their dream home that failed to specify the type of ‘dream’ they’d found. The walls bleed, the live-in maid has an axe-sized gash in her forehead, and the ghost children have no concept of personal space. We won’t mention the basement dweller. But when Margaret’s husband ghosts their daughter too many times, the rightfully concerned Katherine shows up to investigate. Everyone finds a little more than they bargained for.

Saw X

Someone tries to jigsaw Jigsaw. It goes exactly as one would expect. At least, that’s what I gather from the parts I had my eyes open for.
